Our standards
Accuracy. Every factual figure in a guide links to its source. We prefer primary sources: standards bodies such as ASTM, building codes, statutes, government agencies and peer-reviewed research. We use secondary sources only when they report primary data clearly.
Honesty about limits. If a problem cannot be solved by a product, or a common product does not do what it is sold to do, we say so plainly.
Health and law. Guides on hearing, tinnitus and legal rights carry extra checks: official sources only for medical facts, a visible date, a clear “when to see a professional” note, and, where available, review by a named qualified professional.
Independence. Advertisers and affiliate partners have no say in what we publish. Sponsored content is always labeled.
Language. We write in plain US English for readers in any English-speaking country, and we note where rules differ between the US, Canada, the UK, Australia, New Zealand and Ireland.
Updates and corrections
We review guides regularly. The “Updated” date changes only when the content has substantially changed, not for small edits. If we get something wrong, we fix it and note what changed. Report errors through the contact page.
